July 21st, 2008: Fun at the Hawaii All Collectors Show...
We were once again invited by Wayne and Ilene to their show, with the Pacific Outpost 501st Star Wars troop and Maria Harr and the Anime United group. Friday night, was fun as usual with Kell Komatsubara in his "Captain Harlock" costume walking around avoiding arrest by the 501st. Saturday, more fun ensued as most of us changed costumes every two to three hours! We'll be back again next year with more cosplay and even cooler collectibles on display!
Click on pictures for larger view, and go to Gallery for more pictures...
July 13th, 2008: AX Masquerade contest story...
Kell Komatsubara posted the story on his adventures in cosplay at AX 2008. It is a pretty in depth view of what it takes to do a skit at Anime Expo, and the fear and thrill of performing in the NOKIA Theater. The story is in the Special Projects page of this website. Click HERE to see it.
July 12th, 2008: YouTube video of AX 2008 cosplay...
Yes, it is finally up! The skit created by Florencio Lim Jr. and with OAE's own Kell Komatsubara as GENDO IKARI. BTW, what happened to his long hair? Go here to check it out!

May 26th, 2008: Martin-dono! Sayonara!
Well, it seems like it is time to say goodbye to Adrian Martin! His search for greener pastures has led him off to the mainland for work, so we will be holding a SPECIAL karaoke event for him on June 8th as GS Studios. Those who know Adrian, will remember the many different karaoke songs he has entertained us with. On this day, we will be singing WITH HIM! So, feel free to find a song you'd like to sing with Adrian, or if you want to sing a tribute song to him, let us know! We instructed him, to find a song, to sing to US in the end! So email us as soon as possible so we can reserve the party room for the 8th. Yoshiki Takahashi is setting up the details, so please email him at yoshiki@islandcosplay.org

Also, MechaHawaii, has been often times so kind to loan us some models for displays like the All Collectors Show. We are looking at meeting around 6 to 6:30pm and go to Toys and Joys first to enter their contest. The prize there is a Nintendo Wii as long as their are more than 30 entrants. After we are done there, we will head on over to MechaHawaii for their contest. Once we are done, it is time for Ramen at Tenkaippin in Waikiki, followed by the last Karaoke practice session at GS. I hope everyone had a good time at the party, and for those who did not attend, the big winner in the "Anime Idol" karaoke contest, was Mari Okazaki! The runner up was Adrian Martin. The judges after the first round could not decide on a winner, so we picked a random song for each. We had Adrian sing the ending song from Densha Otoko TV series " Sekai wo ai toyobundaze!", and had Mari sing the opening song to Kaze Makase "Tomo no Osake". Mari, even though she HATES ENKA, we just had to give it to her. As judge Milton Streeter said, "Anyone who hates ENKA that much, and does the song so well HAS to win!" Anyways, we'll be announcing the 2007 dates shortly. I hope everyone has a happy and safe New Years, and speaking of new years, we hope to see you all the the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii's Ohana festival!

Well, it was another fun night until the 3am hour for us in Waikiki! Kudos to those who made it and spent the night with us! Photos will be posted soon in the GALLERY section of the website! We will at least finish up the first season, and if time permits we will be debuting the new show to our line up, "FLAG".
October 29th, 2006: Zachary Tom the new VP!
Zac is one of the founding members of the club, and has stepped up to the plate to be the new VP. Also, for the xmas party, Tsukikage Ran has added her name to the list of judges!
Once again, the 26th annual Hawaii International Film Festival was great for us anime and japanese cinema fans! Satoshi Kon's "PAPRIKA" was a good sci fi thriller, but what blew us away, was the US release of "OTOKO NO TACHI YAMATO"! Probably one of the best war movies ever made period and with character development so powerful, you almost believe you are related to them and want(and in some cases you do) cry with them. We here at OAE rate this movie at two kleenex boxes, and at least for me, I want to go to see the Yamato Museum!
Oct. 13th, 2006: XMAS PARTY SCHEDULED!!!
Yes, the rumors ARE TRUE! The XMAS party this year, will be held at the WAIKIKI GS STUDIO on Dec. 2nd. The festivities start at 6pm, and will go until 10pm. We are currently working on the menu, and are looking at around $15 a head for members, and $20 for non-members. We will have the usual games, Pictionary, and Last Man Standing. However, we will be starting an ALL NEW GAME! So, WHO WANTS TO BE THE NEXT ANIME IDOL? We will have THREE special anime character guest to be the judges, and the first RUMORED judge will be INUYASHA. Also, remember at the end we will have the gift exchange. Any gift, around $5 in value, nothing perishable, or dated (i.e. FOOD, Calendars) as we still have the leftover gift from last year, so hope that someone followed the rules. More info will be posted as we get it.

Four shows to go to this year! First is Satoshi Kon's PAPRIKA, where science creates a machine to enter ones dreams. As usual, someone abuses that privledge. HIFF's Andersen Le tells me the director will be at the show so let's rock the house out by filling it full of anime fans! The other, is the sequel to the Robotech series, "ROBOTECH: The Shadow Chronicles". The other two, are live action shows. "Sukeban Deka", is a live action version of the anime of the same name. This should be another great one to see. The one I was most grateful of, was the movie on the REAL Yamato. "Otoko Tachi no Yamato" is about the men and officers of the Battleship Yamato, starring Sorimachi Takeshi of GTO fame. Anyone wanting to go, let us know so we can pick up the members discount ticket for you.
Sept. 24th, 2006: Parting words from VP Eric Kihara...
"I hope everyone has a great year, and please continue to support the club. I hope to join you all when OAE makes it's trip to Japan, so save up so you can savor the culture of Japan."
Sept 21st, 2006: Tomorrow is the meeting and Karaoke!
Remember, this is a SHORT meeting, then we go to Karaoke!
...to the meeting on the 23rd. It will be a free for all, take what you can carry away and what ever is left will go to trash, valuable or not. We will have the "Mari waits one minute to give everyone else a chance to get something good" rule applied here. LOL...
Sept. 11th, 2006: Eric Kihara Moving Sale...
...and take away before it goes to H-Power! That's right folks, If you are interested in purchasing some bookshelves, desk, and furniture, email us here with your phone number and we'll have Eric give you a call. Also, there are a lot of gaming books that if you are interested in he'll give you them for free to a happy home instead of generating a watt of electricity at H-Power. He also has a bunch of wall scrolls and misc comics so hurry. He will be eliminating most of this by this upcoming weekend, so hurry and let him know.
Yes, it may be two months away but Halloween will sneak up on us quickly again. Currently, we are looking to stay at the Sheraton Waikiki, but that may change if they are on strike. Those who wish to stay, can sleep over at the hotel and go to work the next morning. We are looking at going to dinner at 6pm, then walking around Waikiki until 10pm. From there, we will head on over via the Waikiki Trolley to Restraunt Row. After that, we will go to Waikiki GS Studios for some late night Karaoke. At the next meeting, let us know who will be attending, and staying over in the hotel room...
The voice actor for Ranma 1/2's Tatewaki Kuno, Passed away on August 10th, from lung cancer at the age of 56. May the spirit of Tatewaki Kuno live on!
As announced, our VP Eric Kihara will be leaving our island paradise for the desert of Las Vegas. Eric Kihara is one of the founding members for the club and a strong influence in what we have become today. We hope he will find his new endeavors fruitful and can find all the anime he wants in Vegas. What we are planning however, is a HUGE going away party for him. The next meeting, will be a short meeting at HMC, followed by a trip to Waikiki GS Studios! It is the only fitting way we can send off a friend like this! Date and times will be announced shortly.
Sephi Hakubi correctly put the names to the shows! Thanks again to Jason Yadao for the prize!
Yes, we're back at HMC! No place like home huh? We are continuing the play list, and also the trivia game as well so be prepared!
Check out the trivia section for the question. This months prize, is donated by Jason Yadao of the Star Bulletin. Jason writes the "CEL SHADED" article that comes out every monday.
We saw our regulars, and a few new faces as well. After watching some anime, dinner at Yoshiya's, more anime then KARAOKE at GS Studios we went back and did an AKAGI Marathon until 7am! Well, the ones who lasted the course were Marvin Nakajima and Lia Rodrigues. All of the rest who stayed the night were fast asleep by then! Also, Lia once again got the correct answer in the quiz game, although she only got parts of it right. Anyways, it was a fun birthday party for the OAE and we hope to do this again next year! Thanks again to "BloodtypeX" for the cool COSPLAY magazine! I'll be sure to return it to you as soon as possible!
July 25th, 2006: OAE in the news!
Jason Yadao's CEL SHADED article every monday in the Star Bulletin has a pretty cool article on our first anniversary. Also, it lists three of our members who were winners in the contest of theirs as well. To see the article, click here.
That gives us a lot of time for EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES like Karaoke, and GOOD food! Also, after we get done with our scheduled play list, we'll be showing a WHOLE lot more anime of all kinds! Maybe it should be a "last man/woman standing" game? We did that once before, a long time ago. Maybe it is time to do this again?
July 11th, 2006: HOTEL MEETING at the SHERATON!
Okay folks! We'll be at the Sheraton Waikiki on July 29th in the hotel suites. We are looking at where to eat. One option is Yoshiya's, which is in the hotel but kind of pricey ($25 a head, then again, this is Waikiki). Those who want to stay over, please let us know as soon as possible. We will be showing our normal play list, starting from 6pm. We will be in the hotel from 3pm, and just call the Oahu Anime Explorer phone number 808-386-3766, and we'll give you the hotel room number.
July 2nd, 2006: We are ONE YEAR OLD!
In celebration, we will be having a Waikiki Hotel outing. Once we know the venue the times and other info will be posted. We are also planning a trip to Waikiki GS Studio for some Karaoke!
Certain shows, which the board has deemed most likely to be picked up quickly, will begin to be shown in pairs. So, before anyone can pick up The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Black Lagoon, we will begin showing two episodes per meeting for these shows.
June 25th, 2006: Lia Rodrigues is the big winner!
Lia correctly answered the first quiz game! In the show "Trivia Seed", they asked "How many Akihabara males would stop and save the girl, just like in Densha Otoko? They re created the scene to see just how many would stop and help. The numbers are surprising, as SIXTY NINE of them stopped to help the girl in trouble. Look in the trivia section, for the JULY question!
Jason Yadao's column, CEL SHADED is celebrating it's first birthday. With this, they are having an essay contest with some really cool prizes! Go here for more info!
We are looking at a summer outing, either at a beach, or maybe, a night of karaoke and a hotel room stay. We will be discussing this at the next meeting, so bring your ideas with you so we can come up with a plan for this outing.
May 28th, 2006: Densha Otoko project...
We have begun the ground work, on out very own short video! A parody of the hit Japanese show DENSHA OTOKO, with a local flavor. Our project engineers have started on the scripts, and we are starting to look at who will be cast into what roles shortly. Several of our members have their roles set out for them, but we are looking for MORE people to play the many roles of this tv series. All we can say right now is, the plot line will be changed from a train to a bus... ;-)
Sagara and Kaname chan has been taken hostage by FUNIMATION! Well, not quite, but Funimation recently announced their acquision of the FMP-TSR show. So, that means we can no longer play FMP. But, not to worry. We have a good surprise for everyone in its replacement!
We have a new review person added to our group. BakaChan is one of our regular members to the club, and will be adding in reviews so you can get an idea on what shows are out there, and what BakaChan's opinions of them are. Anyone else wanting to send in reviews, please do so! We'd like our review page to be very comprehensive so people from all over Hawaii will come here to check out what is the latest anime and also, to see what some of the older anime was about as well.
May 21st, 2006: Updated programming!
Former Oahu Tamago Ethan got us hooked on this new show in Japan! Black Lagoon! What perfect timing as "Full Metal Panic:The second raid" is ending, and we were looking for a new warfare/mercenary anime to show! Lot of action, funny situations, and a girl with big GUNS and not afraid to use them! If you liked shows like FMP and NOIR, you'll like this show!
The next meeting will be on June 24th, at HMC. Remember, bring you answers to the question in a sealed envelope with your name on the paper.
We have redone the site a bit, to make it more user friendly and have added sections for anime reviews. We will be adding to the reviews in the next couple of weeks, so if you want to add to the reviews, just email us your review and we will add it to the sections. Don't worry if there is a review of your favorite anime already, as we'd like to put several reviews for each anime if possible. We know, not everyone likes the same kind of anime, so different points of view are welcome!
Every month, we will have a trivia question. Prizes will be awarded to the winner of this contest. Starting from the June meeting, we will have everyone write down their answer on a sheet of paper with their name. Place them into an envelope and we will draw them by random, and the first correct answer (or closest without going over if the answer is numerical) wins! Go to the trivia page for more info, and the latest question!
May 6th is the only open weekend for the dojo, so we will be taking advantage of that opening in their schedule. However, we also will be doing some kind of club outing later in May, so bring your ideas of what kind of event you'd all like to do as we will be discussing those ideas at the meeting.
April 20th, 2006: Kawaii Kon is over!
I hope everyone had a lot of fun at this event! We were told, that next year promises to be bigger and better, in a bigger and better venue! We will be posting pics of the event shortly.
No April Fools joke here, mother nature blew us off course, and we will have to alter our April plans. Instead of a meeting, we will be at the Kawaii Kon, and enjoying the three days of non stop anime fun! (We wish all the team members of HMC Academy participating in the PIP event that got rained out the best!)
Looks like we will be going to the HIFF film festival on April 2nd for the showing of Linda, Linda, Linda. It is at 3pm, so if anyone wants tickets, please get ahold of me as soon as possible, so I can go and get the member priced tickets for everyone.
March 13th, 2006: CEL SHADED anime quiz contest!
Jason Yadao, has set up a quiz game contest on his newspaper column. Let's show Hawaii that The Oahu Anime Explorer has the most knowledgeable anime fans here! Go here to the article...
Thanks to Mr. Mike Kitchens, and the Hawaii Talks forum site, we have a way for everyone to be able to get in touch with each other! Leave opinions, views, and also let us know what is happening in your anime world! The forums link is on the front page of this website!
At the Feb. 18th meeting, the tickets for Bob's BBQ kalua pig will be ready for pickup. Remember, every ticket you sell, will go to your account for the trip to Japan in 2007! So sell up! The president said, he has a special anime gift to the one who sells the most tickets! Jan. 29th, 2006: Fundraiser information It has been decided that the first fundraiser will be Bob's BBQ kalua pig. The tickets will sell for $6 each and the sale will run for one month. The tickets will be given out at the febuary meeting and the tickets will be collected at the March meeting. The final details will be available during the Febuary meeting so please show up for details.
Due to the schedule change for ICON Sports "Rumble on the Rock", Our host Kevin will be having to judge on Feb. 25th and will not be able to open the dojo. However, we will be moving the date up to the 18th so we can get our anime fix earlier! Sorry for the date change, but I think, the 18th will be pretty cool. Also, any Initial D fans! There will be a private track day at Hawaii Raceway Park on the 19th, the day after. If you want to come see what drifting is like in person, come on down! When you get to the gate, just tell them you are a member of the Oahu Anime Explorer, and they'll let you in FREE! Actually, it is free to watch, but only invited guests.
This series has just been picked up by VIZ Video. So, we are now pulling this series from the line up. "Capeta" will be the new series replacing it. In fact, we showed the first episode at the end of the last meeting. If you missed this meeting, and you wish to see the episode, discs will be available by the end of this week at OK Anime on Ward Ave.

For the month of January, Turner Classic Movies will be showing every thursday Studio Ghibli Movies. Tonight, they will be showing "Naussica", and I think they are going to be showing "Totoro" next thursday. Check your TV Guide for exact times.
This years New Years Ohana Festival at the JCCH was a huge success for both the JCCH and OAE. It was nice to see a lot of old friends, (Curtis, Uncle Bob, ect.) and made a lot of new ones as well! We plan on being back there in 2007, and hope every year is bigger and better than the year before.
We will be at the JCCH New Years Festival on January 8th, from 8am to 3pm. We will be showing selected shows in the main gallery, and will also have a booth in the main ballroom. If any of you would like to help out by manning the booth, making posters, or giving lectures on anime in the gallery, please contact us as soon as possible so we can let the JCCH know what we are going to do so they can schedule everything. This is also a recruitment drive as well, so if any of your friends are wanting to come down and check us out and join, let them know we will be there.
Thanks to all who came to enjoy our first XMAS party as OAE members. The big winner in the "Last Man Standing" game, was Ross Yoshino. The all you can eat sushi was a sucess, and hope to have Darren back again sometime for more sushi fun! Once again, the board of directors would like to thank all of you for coming, and hope you will all have a safe XMAS, and a Happy New Year. We hope to see you all in 2006. We will be posting the date of the next meeting before the end of the year.
Nov. 30th, 2005: Information of the "GIFT EXCHANGE"
We have been asked, to explain how the "Gift Exchange" at the XMAS party is run. Rules for the gift exchange are simple. Bring a wrapped gift(around $5 or so, SINGLE WRAPPED ONLY or Mari WILL KILL YOU!), and please, no food, perishable, or dated material, as there is ONE gift, left over from the days of our predecessor, that is always left over for next year. Everyone will draw a number, and that number is your turn to pick. The neat thing about this game, is that after the first person picks, he must leave his gift out, and the next person may TAKE YOUR GIFT, or take one from the pile. If someone takes YOUR gift, you may take another from the pile, but not from another person. So, simply put, you want to be the LAST person to pick, as you will have everyones gifts to choose from.
Nov. 26th, 2005: Another cool meeting!
We got to play with our new TOY! The Dell 2300MP projector! Also, we had some newcomers, who even joined us at Zippys for more talk and fun! Anyways, don't forget about the XMAS party! If you can, please let us know if you will be attending or not,
